Accidents/Violations of the Highway Code

VIOLATIONS OF THE ROAD CODE HOW ARE THEY PROCESSED?

Any violation of the highway code (which includes parking fines) is the responsibility of the customer (driver bound by the rental contract). These must be paid before returning the vehicle, otherwise the driver will be identified by the relevant authorities. Fines management fees may apply if Sunset rent a car is asked to intervene in the process of regularising these fines.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IN CASE OF A ACCIDENT?

In the event of a collision, the Customer must immediately contact SUNSET so that an accident report can be completed in the form of a ‘Friendly Accident Statement’ (FAD) – detailing the number plate, the name and address of the other party, the circumstances of the collision, a sketch of the accident, the name of the insurer and, where possible, the insurance policy number, all signed by the two drivers involved in the accident.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IN CASE OF BREAKDOWN?

If possible, park the vehicle and remove the ignition key. Put on the reflective vest (available in the glove compartment) and place the reflective triangle on the track. Then, contact Sunset rent a car on the assistance number – (+351) 910 382 415 – on the road (available 24h) which can be found on the key ring and in the rental agreement.

WHAT WILL I HAVE TO PAY IN CASE OF DAMAGES?

If damage occurs, which are your responsibility, during the rental, you will be charged the amount corresponding to its repair. Acts of negligence invalidate any coverage purchased, leaving the customer responsible for damages up to the total value of the vehicle (commercial value applied at the time).
